Weekly update AB: AgeCare Accreditation Results, Occupational Therapy Month, A Special Visitor at AgeCare Riverview, Stopping the Flu Starts with You, Recreation Calendars, We’re Hiring
We remain committed to providing updates to our residents, families, and staff at AgeCare. As such, we are providing weekly updates to keep you all informed on what is happening in our communities and organization-wide.
It is with great pride and a deep appreciation of all of our staff, families, and residents, that we are pleased to report that AgeCare is again Accredited under the Qmentum Accreditation Canada program.
“Achieving a high level of Accreditation is an important benchmark for our residents, families and valued partners who trust and have faith in us. It is a true measure of the hard work and dedication of our staff who exemplify our commitment to provide unparalleled care and support to those we serve” said Dr. Hasmukh Patel, Chief Executive Officer and President of AgeCare.
The months of preparation and determination to demonstrate our high standard of care paid off when we welcomed the Accreditation Canada surveyors in September, to 15 of our AgeCare communities, across Alberta and British Columbia. Immediately following the survey process, we were provided feedback that the surveyors were impressed by the level of enthusiasm and compassion displayed by our staff. In addition, they spoke highly of their interactions with families, and their overall impression of the quality of care and service we provide.
We are now turning our attention to not only action improvement cycles from this survey, but we will soon be beginning the process of Accreditation across our remaining communities.
Again, our thanks to all staff, physicians, volunteers and contacted service providers for your ongoing commitment to continuous improvement, and for upholding our AgeCare values of Trust, Respect, Quality and Teamwork.

Occupational Therapy Month
This month, as we mark Occupational Therapy Month in Canada, we are pleased to honour the stellar occupational therapists who make a meaningful difference in the lives of our staff and treasured AgeCare residents every day.
Where would we be without the skills and services of occupational therapists (OTs) who work alongside us in our long-term care settings assisting in everything from restorative care, to eating and feeding, mobility, transfers, and falls prevention.
“I really enjoy seeing residents maintain independence as long as possible and being able to have the best quality of life. I enjoy socializing with them while we walk or do one to one exercise. I try to incorporate games and music into the exercise class to make it more fun and keep them alert,” said AgeCare Valleyview OT assistant, Angela Good.
OTs and OT assistants are essential members of our care teams and we are so grateful to have them!
A Special Visitor at AgeCare Riverview
A special visitor came to AgeCare Riverview this week. Kuzco the Lama started his new career of visiting residents in nursing homes and children in daycares. He knows the word “selfie” and will look right into the camera. He likes pets on his neck and is getting more comfortable with his ears being touched. Residents really enjoyed the visit with lots of pets and smiles!
Stopping the Flu, Starts with You
Additionally, all seniors older than 65 can get a free enhanced influenza vaccine this year. Enhanced influenza vaccines (FLUZONE® High-Dose Quadrivalent) give seniors better protection against influenza than standard-dose vaccines. Enhanced influenza vaccines stimulate stronger immune responses, compensating for the natural weakening of the immune system that occurs with age.
You may call ahead to your pharmacy or physician's office to confirm if they will be offering the influenza vaccine this fall.
Albertans are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza for the most effective protection this fall. The COVID-19 booster program continues, and Alberta's annual influenza (flu) vaccine campaign will begin in mid-October.
With the start of the respiratory illness season, it is expected that COVID-19 cases will increase as more people gather indoors. In addition, we need to be prepared for the possibility of an influenza surge following two years of low influenza rates due to public health restrictions that reduced travel and socialization.
At AgeCare, we will be hosting immunization clinics for our residents and staff to help prevent the spread of influenza.
Our recreation team works hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are continuously looking for ways to reduce the risk of transmission while having the least impact on our residents' well-being.
Please note that communities with an exposure or outbreak may have different recreation restrictions. Contact your community or sign up for email updates to stay informed on the latest information.
For our AgeCare communities from Revera, your Activity Pro Family Portal is still available for you to access. You can log in with your usual username and password at online.activitypro.net/users/login/agecare.
If you are a current resident family member and don't yet have a username and password to access your loved one's Activity Pro page, please contactthe community directly and ask to speak to the recreation team. They walk you through the steps needed to access the family portal.
