Gift Wrapped Kindness A Christmas to Remember
With the holiday approaching, AgeCare is preparing to launch our ‘A Christmas to Remember’ campaign that involves the collection and delivery of anonymous gifts to seniors who may be isolated or don’t have loved ones near by.
The campaign, currently run at five of our Alberta sites, provides the opportunity for people to nominate seniors in need, as well as the opportunity to purchase a gift for a lonely or financially-challenged senior.
In previous years, with the dedication of staff and volunteers, this initiative has been tremendously successful, and uplifting for all those who give and receive.
In the coming weeks we will bring you more stories and updates on the campaign that launches on November 14th.
AgeCare Partners with SafeCare BC to Provide Inhouse Space for Staff Training
SafeCare BC is an industry leader, providing educational services, injury prevention and safety training for long-term care, home support workers, independent living staff, as well as students entering the field of continuing care.
“This is a natural fit – having this phenomenal training and education service inhouse at AgeCare is a win-win for everyone. It demonstrates our commitment to serve the public in a greater capacity, it provides added access to training and education in our own facilities, and ultimately it ensures we are equipping AgeCare with the best possible tools to help keep staff and residents safe and well,” said Jennifer Grusing, AgeCare Director, Education and Skills Development.
Jenn LeSage, Program and Facilitator Support Lead for SafeCare BC says their organization is equally excited about the partnership with AgeCare.
“Our goal is to lower injury rates to ensure everyone goes home from work safely. With AgeCare providing us with permanent locations it will allow us to provide much-needed education and workshops throughout interior BC and the lower mainland.”
A grand opening of all SafeCare BC training centres in AgeCare will take place at AgeCare’s Monashee Mews in Lumby, BC on November 18.
Stopping the Flu, Starts with You
Additionally, all seniors older than 65 can get a free enhanced influenza vaccine this year. Enhanced influenza vaccines (FLUZONE® High-Dose Quadrivalent) give seniors better protection against influenza than standard-dose vaccines. Enhanced influenza vaccines stimulate stronger immune responses, compensating for the natural weakening of the immune system that occurs with age.
You may call ahead to your pharmacy or physician's office to confirm if they will be offering the influenza vaccine this fall.
Albertans are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza for the most effective protection this fall. The COVID-19 booster program continues, and Alberta's annual influenza (flu) vaccine campaign will begin in mid-October.
With the start of the respiratory illness season, it is expected that COVID-19 cases will increase as more people gather indoors. In addition, we need to be prepared for the possibility of an influenza surge following two years of low influenza rates due to public health restrictions that reduced travel and socialization.
At AgeCare, we will be hosting immunization clinics for our residents and staff to help prevent the spread of influenza.
Our recreation team works hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are continuously looking for ways to reduce the risk of transmission while having the least impact on our residents' well-being.
Please note that communities with an exposure or outbreak may have different recreation restrictions. Contact your community or sign up for email updates to stay informed on the latest information.
For our AgeCare communities from Revera, your Activity Pro Family Portal is still available for you to access. You can log in with your usual username and password at online.activitypro.net/users/login/agecare.
If you are a current resident family member and don't yet have a username and password to access your loved one's Activity Pro page, please contactthe community directly and ask to speak to the recreation team. They walk you through the steps needed to access the family portal.
