Retirement Living residents at Midnapore Estate had an exciting visit from this beautiful Great Horned Owl last month! The Calgary Wildlife Rehabilitation Society (CWRS) taught us all about this special bird and the work they do to treat injured and orphaned wildlife. Needless to say, he had many admirers from residents and staff.
Getting your Flu Shot
Influenza immunization is a priority this year, with the unique circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and the strain it has put on the healthcare system.
All Albertans, aged five and older, are being encouraged to protect themselves and those around them against influenza this year by getting a flu shot.
As of Nov. 24, appointments for the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine are available for children 5 – 11 years of age. However, these children will not be subject to Alberta's restrictions exemption program at this time.
To continue to provide a safe place for your loved one, we encourage families with younger children, who may be visiting their loved ones in our communities, to consider the vaccine for their younger children. if you have any questions about getting your children immunized we recommend talking with their pediatrician or family physician. For more information on the Pfizer vaccine for children, visit ahs.ca.
To book the Pfizer vaccine for your child, visit ahs.ca/vaccine or call 811
Vaccine Record with QR Code (UPDATED)
All of our communities are now fully equipped to scan the Alberta Vaccine QR codes.
QR Code for Travellers
Alberta’s vaccine record is now up to date to meet the recommended Canadian standard for domestic and international travel. It includes middle names, and the record is in both official languages.
There is no need for Albertans, who already have a QR code vaccine record, to save or reprint the updated version if they do not intend to travel. You can continue to use your current QR vaccine record to visit your loved one and access local businesses and venues taking part in the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP).
How to Get your Vaccine Record
Albertans turning 12 and older can get their vaccine record with QR code at alberta.ca/CovidRecords.
It's fast and easy – no account required. Enter your personal healthcare number, birthdate, and month and year of vaccination.
Download your card and print out, or save on your phone.
If you were vaccinated recently, it may take up to 2 weeks for your records to be available online.

Residents are welcome to go on community walks, outings, and overnight stays as long as they follow all of the current provincial guidelines.
As cases continue to be high throughout the province, we must remain diligent and take steps to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Guidelines are in effect to ensure outings and overnight stays are as safe as possible.
Third doses of the COVID-19 vaccine are now being offered to health care workers. AgeCare is encouraging all eligible staff to book their 3rd dose to help protect themselves, their family, community, and residents.
Our recreation team is working hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are continuously looking for ways to reduce the risk of transmission while having the least impact on resident well-being.
