Coronavirus COVID-19 Updates

April 10, 2020 - Staff to Wear Surgical Masks

Posted by AgeCare on April 10, 2020 at 6:24 PM

Today, April 10, 2020, at 3 pm, Dr. Hinshaw, Chief Medical Officer of Health, Alberta Health, announced new steps to prevent the spread of illness in continuing care facilities. A new directive that all Continuing Care Facilities shall direct their staff to wear a surgical mask at all times when providing direct resident care or working in resident care areas within 2 meters of others.  These changes are being made to protect residents from inadvertent exposure from a health care worker who may be without symptoms but still be infectious.

AgeCare has been working towards this mandate and upon the directive being disseminated from Dr. Hinshaw, has communicated to all sites that this direction must be immediately acted upon. This new directive is a complement to all our prevention strategies such as hand washing, physical distancing, screening all staff and all who come into community, monitoring residents for any symptoms and immediate isolation as required.

AgeCare will continue to keep all residents and families informed of new directives that impact our operations. Thank you for your continued support as we work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to the most vulnerable, our residents.
