Coronavirus COVID-19 Updates

Message from Dr. Hasmukh Patel, AgeCare CEO & President

Posted by AgeCare on November 17, 2020 at 9:27 PM

To: AgeCare Staff, Families and Residents,

Many of you would have seen the high numbers of COVID-19 cases this weekend in Alberta of around 1000 per day. We are concerned about these high numbers in the community.

Please know that we are doing everything possible to keep our residents and staff safe from the spread of this virus. Community transmission is our largest concern. I urge you all that now, more than ever, we need to limit our interactions.

As communicated in our weekly update, our staff, families, and residents must review and understand their responsibility. There are three restrictions we wanted to highlight to help prevent the spread:

# 1 - No social gatherings inside your home.
Instead, socialize outdoors or in structured settings, like restaurants that are subject to legal limits and take steps to prevent transmission.

#2 - Social gatherings (outdoors or in structured settings) cannot exceed 15 people.
It is critical that if gathering, you do NOT share food or host potlucks.

Examples of social gatherings include:

  • parties: birthday, retirement, baby showers, house/backyard
  • holiday or religious celebrations
  • ceremonies of any kind
  • wedding or funeral receptions

#3 - Limit of 3 cohorts, plus child care

For our designated family/support persons: Ensure you are counting your immediate household, your loved-one residing at an AgeCare community, and one other.

For our staff: Do not count your co-workers as members of your cohort. Based on the type of work and the residents we serve; we must remain vigilant at all times. We must continue to follow all infection, protection, control (IPC) guidelines, even in off-hours or social settings.

Through our collective compliance with these new restrictions, we are protecting our residents and love-ones. We have also taken on a campaign to educate and remind staff on the importance of these restrictions and infection, protection, and control (IPC) in all areas of our lives.

At this time, we ask that the designated family/support persons evaluate their own needs to visit in-person based on the resident’s needs. To ensure residents and family can stay connected during this time, we continue to offer scheduled virtual visits. To book a virtual visit with your loved one, contact the recreation team at your AgeCare community.

Avoid 3 Cs Practice 3 Ws POSTERThe 3 C’s

Even when restrictions are lifted, consider where you are going and stay safe by avoiding the Three Cs and practicing the Three Ws.

Avoid the Three Cs:

  • Closed spaces with poor ventilation
  • Crowded places
  • Close contact situations

Note: the risk is higher where these overlap.

Practice the Three Ws:

  • Wash your hands
  • Watch your distance
    (2 metres/6 feet apart)
  • Wear your mask

We remain vigilant in our efforts. Our teams are working at all hours to be available for residents and families. Together, these measures will help protect our care homes and health care system, keep schools and businesses open, and protect the vulnerable by limiting the spread of the virus. We very much appreciate your support and ongoing positive messages during this time.

Sincerely,

Dr. Hasmukh Patel
AgeCare CEO & President
