This weekly update includes:

  1. Enhancing Engagement – The latest technology helping our residents stay active.
  2. Recreation & Activities - An update on our return to safe recreation and activities as the need to stay active, intellectually stimulated, and socially connected never ends.
  3. Weekly Shout Out - Sharing good news stories and gratitude for our residents, staff and community.

Thank you all for your continued support.

Enhancing Resident Engagement – Meet Obie

Obie for SeniorsWe are proud to share that thanks to Healthcare Excellence Canada through the Acting on Pandemic Learning Together grant, our AgeCare communities will soon be using Obie Technology.
Obie is a gaming console that projects interactive games onto any surface (tables, floors, walls) to encourage active engagement. Research shows that targeted cognitive exercises like those available through Obie, increase overall well-being as well as a significant improvement to motor skills.
Obie was designed by a team of experts and therapists specializing in aging to enhance and strengthen seniors' daily interactions and engagement. Obie will be an excellent tool for our recreation teams as they continue to creatively come up with ways to engage with residents who may be experiencing anxiety, depression and reduced mobility as a result of the pandemic.

Recreation & Activities

Our recreation team is working hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are taking a measured, phased approach to recreation activities. Each week we will be reassessing how these are going and make any adjustments that may be required.

In both Harmony Court Estate (Independent Living) and the Care Centre (Long Term Care), we are cohorting residents into groups. They may enjoy the activities with the same residents each time. All cohort recreation programs will involve no touching of each other or shared objects.

During all interactions, staff continue to practice exceptional hand hygiene, wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), and are using extreme diligence in enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures.

Weekly Shout-Out

HC Music TherapyThis month we were pleased to welcome back our incredible Music Therapist Jo Anne… virtually! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jo Anne has been unable to enter the building for her much-loved music sessions with residents. We are pleased to share that this month Jo Anne has been able to offer three 45 minute virtual sessions weekly. These sessions can be done on a one-to-one basis or with a small group of residents. Studies show that involvement with music as we age has a positive effect on mental and physical health. We are so happy to once again see her connecting with our residents. Thank you Jo Anne!
