AgeCare Observes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
AgeCare Observes National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Many of us will never know the extreme hardships endured by our Indigenous brothers and sisters, but on September 30, a national day of honouring survivors of residential schools and their families, we stand together to reflect and share the burden of grief and the momentum for change.
At AgeCare, we are committed to working toward reconciliation, cultural safety, and humility to positively impact the health and wellness of Indigenous Peoples residing in our communities. We know these are vital components of Canada's commitment to reconciliation, as supported by the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action (TRC).
Each September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, in addition to observing this important day as a statutory holiday for all AgeCare employees, we will also honour our Indigenous brothers and sisters by serving a special menu featuring unique selections such as grilled salmon and bison burgers, along with corn and squash, in all our communities across Alberta and BC. Many of our communities will also take part in special reflective activities, including Orange Shirt Day.
Furthermore, we are committed to year-round recognition of our Indigenous history, including Land Acknowledgements situated near the entrance of each of our communities.
This is an important way of honouring the people whose land we work and live on, and a reminder to us all that work still needs to be done as we walk the path of reconciliation.
"At AgeCare, we consistently strive to ensure that we are learning from the past. We also aim to ensure that all our residents see themselves, feel at home, and know their traditions are respected and honoured," said AgeCare COO, Salimah Walji-Shivji.
Celebrating Seniors
To all our cherished seniors - Happy National Seniors Day!
There are no words to express how fortunate we feel to be a part of your community - sharing your later years with you.
May you take this day to honour yourself, just as we celebrate you!
New Bivalent COVID-19 Vaccine Rolled Out in BC!
The new bivalent COVID-19 vaccine is now being offered to eligible people as part of British Columbia's fall booster program. The Ministry of Health notes that, as with the previous doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, invitations will be sent out based on people's risk and age, as long as it has been six months since their previous dose.
Priority groups will continue to include people over the age of 60, Indigenous peoples of all ages, people who are clinically extremely vulnerable and people, such as eligible healthcare workers, who work with high-risk and vulnerable individuals.
Also, currently in BC, first dose boosters (third doses) are currently available to everyone 5 years and older. Second boosters (fourth doses) are available to everyone 12 years and older.
At AgeCare, we strongly encourage all individuals to get all booster doses available to them.
Let’s Do All We Can to Keep Ourselves and Our Communities Safe!
If you have not yet received your COVID vaccine or booster doses, please visit getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca or call 1-833-838-2323.
Visitor Guidelines
While many restrictions have been lifted outside of our community, we wish to reiterate the need for safe, responsible practices in our centres, including continuous masking and hand hygiene. Remember! Help us limit potential exposure to COVID by staying away if you are unwell.
Our recreation team works hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are continuously looking for ways to reduce the risk of transmission while having the least impact on residents' well-being. At this time, visitors are not permitted to attend indoor recreation programming, including concerts. We appreciate your understanding.
Please note that communities with an exposure or outbreak may have different recreation restrictions. Contact your community or sign up for email updates to stay informed on the latest information.
For our AgeCare communities from Revera, your Activity Pro Family Portal is still available for you to access. You can log in with your usual username and password at online.activitypro.net/users/login/agecare.
If you are a current resident family member and don’t yet have a username and password to access your loved one’s Activity Pro page, please contact the community directly and ask to speak to the recreation team. They walk you through the steps needed to access the family portal.
