Equine Visit Sparks Joy at Cariboo Place
Help Us Keep Our Communities Safe - Let's all get Boosted!
AgeCare Cariboo Place welcomed a special equine guest last week that brought great joy to residents, especially one particular resident, Gerry Bracewell, who recently turned 100 and has written books on hunting and guiding.
Rusty is a beautiful gentle quarter horse who knows all too well how to lend his charming equine vibes to his admirers. Rusty’s owner is Rayel Petersen, who belongs to a family of pioneers of the Chilcotin, and who trains quarter horses and offers riding lessons in nearby Pablo Creek. Rayel brought her three children, James, Ella, and Rayna as well as their family dog Ray-Ban.
“This was an unbelievable experience to witness. It evoked many happy memories and brought many smiles and even tears of joy!” said Tracy Spence-Whitford, Recreation Coordinator for AgeCare Cariboo Place. “The smell of the horse and his smooth freshly combed coat was a wonderful experience for our residents – helping them to recollect fond memories of their own horse ownership and other past experiences.”
Let’s all get Boosted!
With a potential 7th wave of the pandemic and an increase of transmission in other provinces, we wish to strongly encourage individuals over the age of 18 to get their fourth dose (2nd booster).
Vaccine effectiveness against infection may decline over time, but they remain the best way to prevent severe illness and death. Additional doses can boost immunity to improve protection and limit spread. Residents and staff have all been offered both booster doses.
BCCDC data shows a person with three or more doses of vaccine is about half as likely as an unvaccinated person the same age to be hospitalized and about one-third as likely to require critical care.
Help us keep our communities as safe as we can! If you have not yet received your COVID vaccine or booster doses, please visit getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca or call 1-833-838-2323.
