Home Together – Purposeful Resident Engagement Program
Home Together – Purposeful Resident Engagement Program
Experiences that contribute to the richness of our lives are not just the big events, they are the small day to day activities that give us pleasure and contentment. Simple tasks such as tending a garden, arranging flowers, shucking corn, baking cookies, making jam or pickles, or setting the table for dinner, all hold meaning and contribute to purpose in our day.
This fall, AgeCare Harmony Court is preparing to roll out ‘Home Together,’ a person-centred resident-engagement program created with our hospitality partner, Aramark, that will pave the way for our residents to take part in these small but meaningful processes that help us to feel grounded and purposeful.
Some examples of ‘Home Together’ activities in our communities might include creating fresh baked treats and sharing with other residents, making jams or pickles, peeling vegetables, preparing dining tables for meal service, or creating flower arrangements to beautify their community.
For some residents, these activities may be things they have enjoyed doing in the past, while for others, they may be new experiences. Either way, we know that participating in, or contributing to regular meaningful activities is an important way for our residents to experience satisfaction and a sense of community.
In addition, resident engagement programs such as this provide cognitive, psychosocial, and physical benefits. For instance, baking cookies is more than an activity to participate in — the process of mixing batter, or the smell of the baking, may bring up memories and stories residents feel like talking about. Sharing the cookies with other residents at teatime may spark conversation, while also building a sense of community, pride, and accomplishment.
The list of possibilities for ‘Home Together’ will grow and evolve as residents show interest. We can’t wait to see you how this program takes shape, and brings joy to all who participate in our communities!
COVID-19 is Still Here – But Vaccines Help
BC has now extended its COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to include everyone six months and older.
In a recent CBC article, Dr. Bonnie Henry urges people to get the vaccine, stating that vaccines are safe and they work well.
Let’s Do All We Can to Keep Ourselves and Our Communities Safe!
At AgeCare, we strongly encourage all individuals to get all booster doses available to them.
BCCDC data shows a person with three or more doses of vaccine is about half as likely as an unvaccinated person the same age to be hospitalized and about one-third as likely to require critical care.
If you have not yet received your COVID vaccine or booster doses, please visit getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca or call 1-833-838-2323.
Visitor Guidelines
While many restrictions have been lifted outside of our community, we wish to reiterate the need for safe, responsible practices in our centres, including continuous masking and hand hygiene. Remember! Help us limit potential exposure to COVID by staying away if you are unwell.
Our recreation team works hard to create engaging activities that enrich the mind, body and spirit. We are continuously looking for ways to reduce the risk of transmission while having the least impact on resident well-being. At this time, visitors are not permitted to attend indoor recreation programming, including concerts. We appreciate your understanding.
Please note that communities with an exposure or outbreak may have different recreation restrictions in effect. Contact your community or
